THE COMMUNITY
Danbury is a lovely upper Fairfield County city with suburban charm. Incorporated in 1702, the city's 44 square
miles encompass quiet residential neighborhoods. Kenosia and Candlewood lakes, expansive "green spaces" and a
major commercial and industrial metropolitan district. Danbury has a rich history and melds the old and new into a
thriving city with incredible cultural diversity. Since its settlement by fur trappers in 1684, Danbury has thrived as a
regional center of commerce, including the hatting industry. Many opportunities for employment exist in present day
Danbury, Cartus Corporation, and numerous substantial businesses. A seemingly endless variety of shopping
awaits at Danbury Fair Mall, one of Connecticut's largest malls, where more than 200 stores meet every need.
Danbury offers an appealing mixture of homes, where residents are afforded the joys of a small-town atmosphere

EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL FACILITIES
Danbury is fortunate to have a wonderful mix of private and public educational institutions and is the 7th largest
school district in the State. Danbury Public Schools has one comprehensive high school, which is the largest in the
State; one alternative high school; 3 middle schools including one middle school magnet school; and 13 elementary
schools including one elementary magnet school. There are 8 private and parochial elementary through high schools
and 31 preschool and daycare facilities.
RECREATION
In keeping with Danbury's wide-ranging appeal, every favored recreation is readily available. Richter Park Golf
Course, the Danbury Ice Arena, and the aquatic attractions of Candlewood and Kenosia Lakes add to Danbury's
many pleasures. Rogers Park, home to the Danbury Westerners baseball team, offers six baseball and four softball
fields on 56 acres. Enjoy nature at outstanding state and local parks; ski, skate, fish, play tennis or participate in the
many organized sports program on the numerous athletic fields and courts of the city. there are a number of hiking
trials available for use year round which include Bear Mountain Reserve, Tarrywile Park, Old Quarry Nature Center,
Still River Greenway and the Farrington property on the west side on Mill Plain Road.
TRANSPORTATION
Sixty-five miles from New York City and sixty miles from Hartford, Danbury rests at the intersection of Interstate
Routes 84 and Route 7 and has convenient access to the Merritt Parkway and I-95. Danbury is also served by Metro-
North commuter rail service, extensive bus service and the Danbury Municipal Airport.
