NEW FAIRFIELD... IN THE FOOTHILLS OF THE BERKSHIRES ON CANDLEWOOD Lake

THE COMMUNITY
Settled in 1728, the New Fairfield's rural ambiance belies its close proximity to the urban conveniences of
Danbury, Connecticut. It is a green, residential retreat in the foothills of the Berkshires, where the pace of
living slows and the pleasures of Candlewood Lake add scenic and recreational delights to everyday life.
Two-hundred-year-old farmhouses still exist, in quiet harmony with new custom residences possessing
expansive properties and with neighborhoods of one-family homes on one- or two-acre grounds. For true
privacy, without isolation, Candlewood Isle, a gated waterside community on the expansive man-made lake,
is reachable only by a small bridge or by boat. The former resort area now known as Squantz Pond State
Park also contains private year-round homes. Within its 25.3-mile area, New Fairfield's 13,000 inhabitants
have a Board of Selectmen and Town Meeting form of government.
EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL FACILITIES
New Fairfield prides itself on its excellent public school system, which consists of two Elementary Schools,
one Middle School and one High School. The town's energetic cultural life features its own Art Society
and Historical Society. Neighboring Sherman's Playhouse and Danbury's many cultural activities provide
opportunities for enrichment and entertainment.
RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
Candlewood Lake's countless attractions add a wonderful dimension to life in New Fairfield, with boating,
fishing and water sports in summer, ice boating, ice fishing, skating and cross-country skiing in winter.
Numerous recreational activities also encompass two beaches, playgrounds, four public tennis courts and
organized programs for baseball, football, softball and tennis, The High School's swimming pool offers year round
swimming for students and residents.
TRANSPORTATION
New Fairfield is situated on the New York border, fifteen minutes from Danbury's trains and buses to
New York City. The town's center, with its quaint shops, local businesses, Town Hall and Post Office,
is at the intersection of Route 37 and Route 39, with access to the New York's highways and convenient
commutation to White Plains.
